rickivy Beautiful song Mr. Hart! What an incredible moment you’ve captured. The great ballads have three acts I’m told and I count Delia Sue among them. The narrator meets a stranger, they share something deep and then she’s gone with the weather. Really loved the imagery. The stained glass, watching the sky fall. Also I love the passivity of the narrator! It works so well with the dreamy haze. It’s worth noting that Delia is the person of action, she enters and leaves like an elusive muse. Dig! Favorite track: Delia Sue.

laynejackson A good, old fashioned country song, with just the right amount of yearning

about

Penned in a flurry, Delia Sue felt finished when it began. I inflicted it upon my wife who took it well. I dashed, guitar in-hand, across the street and played it for my neighbor who nodded approvingly. Then I sat on the thing for months. Finally, I took up the request of old friend, Ben Taylor (Bloodshot Records artist JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound), and sent him a demo. He took to it, requested the lyrics & music, and a collaboration began. Basics were recorded, vocals re-recorded, then covid delays set in. After some time, a socially distanced pedal steel session got the ball rolling again and here we are. Sounding very much the way I heard the thing when I, guitar across my lap, first put pen to paper… Delia Sue.

Thanks to Ben Taylor for his production, patience, & persistence. Thanks to Erik, Layne, Ryan, & Tommy for their playing & singing. Thanks again to Erik for capturing & mixing the sounds and thanks to Scott Craggs for tying it all together.
Thanks always to Amy & the kids for putting up with all the time spent and listening when I asked.
